Your MedicAlert membership is much more than a piece of jewellery. It is a comprehensive system of protection and support that is with you, always.
Membership benefits include:
-
Bracelet or necklet with an individually engraved genuine MedicAlert® emblem
Emblem options as a part of your membership include stainless steel, sterling silver, gold-filled and solid gold. Teenagers and active adults may prefer our sportsband option – please see our full product range for prices.
Ambulance paramedics and healthcare professionals are trained to look for vital medical information engraved on the back of your MedicAlert emblem. Your emblem also carries a personal identification number to provide accurate information. The phone number on the emblem is for emergency service & healthcare personnel (only) to access your personal information on file in an emergency.
-
24/7 hotline for emergency services and healthcare personnel to call
If needed, emergency services and healthcare personnel can call the 24/7 hotline number engraved on the back of your emblem for further important details held on our confidential national database - even if outside of Australia.
-
Individual personal and medical information held on confidential database
Membership information held on our secure central database is released only to authorised emergency service & healthcare personnel. Examples of information that can be provided includes:
-
name and address
- medical conditions, allergies, medication, advance directives
- doctor's name and contact details
- emergency contact's name and contact details
- hospital details (where records kept)
It is essential that your information is kept as accurate and up-to-date as possible. If any of your medical or personal information changes throughout the year, please contact us to update your individual file. Each year you will receive a copy of your medical information (sent with your annual subscription fee) that you can use to check your details are accurate.
All personal information held is in conjunction with our privacy policy.
-
Membership/Emergency Assist card
We provide you with a wallet-sized emergency assist card that you can store in your purse or wallet. The card includes key information held on your file, together with the 24/7 hotline number and separate administration number for member enquires (1800 882 222). Great for when you travel, visit a doctor for the first time or need to quickly reference your details.
-
Regular Member Updates
This includes a copy of our member newsletter and access to special offers.
-
Access to Members Area on website
You will be provided with a user name and password to access the Members’ Area on the website. This allows you to make purchases online or update your details.
Cost
The cost to join MedicAlert Foundation in the first year is the price of whichever emblem you choose – as membership is free for the first year! Prices start from $55 for the stainless steel emblem options.
Each year thereafter an annual subscription fee of $30.00 (inc. GST) applies to maintain your membership. See below.
Annual Subscription
It is vital that the information held on our national database is kept current. Each year you will receive a copy of your medical information held on file. This is the time to review all your details for accuracy. The $30.00 (inc. GST) annual fee is important to the overall administration of the Foundation. It assists us to maintain the 24/7 telephone hotline for emergency and healthcare professionals to access your other important information in an emergency.
The annual fee also assists the Foundation to continue to raise awareness of the MedicAlert emblem and its importance to emergency and healthcare personnel across Australia.
Medical Authentication
Your immediate protection is our highest priority and we understand that it is not always convenient to obtain your healthcare provider's signature to authenticate your medical information immediately.
Please consider having this information confirmed the next time you visit your Doctor. We reserve the right to request specific healthcare provider authentication for individual medical conditions at the time of joining.
ASCIA (Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology & Allergy) recommends allergies must always be confirmed (authenticated) by your doctor on joining.
